This is the introduction to an upcoming series of articles about strange events I witnessed after a loved one had died. In some cases these events were so peculiar, one might even call them eerie, that they cannot be explained rationally. Instead, I believe the departed is trying to send us a message “from the other side” to let us know they are still here in other form.
As I wrote before, I believe that we continue on after death in some other form, let’s call it soul or spirit. And I do believe that our physical world and “the other side” — the realm of spirits and souls — are connected. In fact, the two may just be but two sides of the same coin. And if so, there could indeed be ways for spirits to contact us.
So every time a close person dies, I go into a hypersensitive mode and watch for strange events, things that seem a bit “off” that may signal something.
I believe that most people, including you, can also pick up on these if you have an open mind and know what to look for. The problem is that after a death, the pain we feel may be overwhelming. So I am chronicling some of these events in the hope they could help somebody in an hour of need.
Now, I personally have witnessed events that fall into several categories. I hesitate to use that word “category” as there really are no great distinctions. They only differ by degrees, from extremely subtle to some really strange if not eerie occurrences. The subtle ones may be easily missed, unless you are really intuned to your body, thoughts, and surroundings; while the truly strange ones may make the hair on your back stand up.
In all cases, it really is just paying attention to something that is “off”, not quite right, or does not seem normal.
The first such “category” some may write off as simple coincides. But I believe, there are no coincidences, certainly not at the times of a passing. Rather these are messages from the other side, spirits trying to contact us. What I am talking about here are little synchronous things, or glitches, that happen just at the right time, and make sense only when linked to the departed.
Some of these are very minor, things like feeling compelled to open a book on a random page and reading a sentence that makes great sense at that moment, like a message sent to you by the loved one.
But others are much harder to explain. There was one event in particular, which I will write about, where I was able to estimate the odds for this to happen to be 1:120,000,000. You have a better chance to win the lottery, being hit by lightning, or being bitten by a shark! So you tell me...
In another category are all the truly “strange” things that I have witnessed, for which there really is no good rational explanation. Let’s call them paranormal, for lack of better term. A lot of these have to do with electricity: lights that flicker while turned off (!), lights that turn off and back on; a radio that could not be turned off any more while playing a certain meaningful song; a broken TV starts to work again; all the videos on my cell phone (mostly those of the departed when she was sick) mysteriously disappearing, and so on.
The next kind that I have witnessed were physical sensations, one might even call them “manifestations.” No, I have never seen a spirit, but I have had instances where I felt as if I was touched by one. A few times, while looking for a particular thing linked to the departed, I have felt the hair on my back standing up, as if I was being touched and guided by a spirit. At two other times, I felt a slight physical nudge or push, just enough to be noticed, both times guiding me to pick up a book that turned out to be meaningful. Another time, I witnessed an object falling off a shelf for no reason that turned out to have great meaning.
The last category is also very subtle. It touches on the psychic realm, let’s call it clairvoyance (vision) or clairaudience (audio). These are thoughts or insights that I could not “have thought of myself.” They have a very subtle quality and differ from the normal ways of thinking. Usually, we think a thought, there is a small pause, and then the next one comes, like an internal dialogue. But with these insights, just to give one example, an answer would appear before I even finish formulating the question. And some of these answers I had not basis of knowing. So I believe, and have read so in other places, that a spirit can, very subtly, place a thought in our mind to help us guide our lives.
So these are some types of messages from the other sides that I have witnessed. There probably are more ways that the dead can talk to us, and I should probably mention dreams here. But I want to write about those first that I have direct experience of.
I would be greatly interesting to hear if other people had similar or different experiences where they thought they are getting a message from the dead, or from the other side. If you do, please share it in the comments.
For those of you who have not received any messages but would like to, please start by believing that it is possible, and then try to look for little things that are off. I can’t guarantee you will pick up anything, but unless you acknowledge the possibility, you won’t be able to.
