Hanns (H): So, Club, last night I had another theme in my dreams: the image was a computer keyboard, fist a normal one, and then one that was folded in three ways. But what came out of it was the question of why it is called a “key” board. And from that to the “key” a piece of music is written in.
Obviously the word “key” is of great meaning. And I have been getting the sentence:
The key unlocks.
(And just now also: the key locks.)
So, are you here?
The Club beyond time and space (TCB): We are here.
H: So why key? Why was this image given to me?
TCB: The key to understanding.
H: ... is?
TCB: Well, all understanding can be done only by you – or the individual consciousness. Yesterday, we talked about understanding. Go reread that section.
H: [ how there are “layers” of understanding and how it ripples up. ]
TCB: Yes. But the ripple movement starts from you. Upwards, or inwards, towards universal understanding.
So, you just looked up [before this session] the concept of key in music, how in a scale the base note is the key, that sets the tonality of that scale. Say C-major, then C is the key. In E-flat, the E is the key. So the keynote sets the way the “understanding” of the scale works it out, and how it can resolve itself.
H: But the notes on a keyboard, or piano, or guitar, are all just strings of various lengths that are tuned.
TCB: Yes, tuned. There is that word again. But once tuned, we now talk about the relationship between various tuned strings, possible combinations that organize themselves into something that has a tonal quality to it, based on some “key.”
So it is just not a tuning, singular, but a tuning of several strings, so that a harmonious feeling is created, or a non-harmonious feeling. But the point is that various combinations generate various experiences. The why is not important right now, just the fact that they do. Neither the fact that some are more harmonious, others are not. All that is for later.
Right now, it is that they can create an experience.
And at the center of that is the key of a scale. The key is what resolves it. One article you read is that it is like gravity. The further the tones move away from that key, the more it has to return. And finally, the piece of music has to, or wants to, resolve itself into that key.
H: OK, I “kind of” see where this is going, but not really.
TCB: So it comes back to you. Your understanding. Your not-understanding builds up a tension in you. Your “string” is out of whack, no longer harmonious. So you “explore,” and if you do it well, you let it flow naturally until you find a solution that “resolves,” and thereby changes you, again making you whole.
H: I see all that, but why “key”?
TCB: The key is what resolves the tension. It both locks and unlocks the answer.
H: So, the “key” is to find the key?
TCB: In a way, yes. We will stop here. You are not ready to go on. Let it sink in, and come back when you feel more ready. All this is a key insight. Reread this [material].
H: OK, strange session.
TCB: Why strange?
H: No resolution.
And indeed, later that day I had a second session that brought on further insights, as well as in the following morning.
Namaste — I bow to you and the Divine in you.
